It's a bummer because the Buds2 are solid from an audio perspective.

If you have any allergy or skin sensitivity issues, you should take a look at the buds you have around. I believe 90% of people will be fine with the Buds2, but some won't. Yes, I have cleaned them (the earbud and my ears) thoroughly. I'll spare you all the gory details, but it's not pleasant. Regardless of the cause, I can't wear the Buds2 for more than a few hours cumulatively before my ears get itchy, flaky, and well, gross. Some have also speculated there is a chemical component of the plastic housing that causes irritation. About one in ten people are sensitive to nickel, and I'm one of those people.
I don't know what the exact issue is, but several owners have speculated the charging contacts on the Buds Pro and Buds2 contain nickel. Now that I've gone back, though, I am confident I too am having skin reactions to something in the Buds2. So, I assumed the skin irritation I experienced was a result of plugging my ears up with earbuds almost constantly. When I reviewed the Buds2, I was in the midst of a string of seemingly endless meetings.

There are threads all over Reddit and Samsung's support forums that talk about the Buds Pro and Buds2 causing persistent skin irritation. I've been using the Galaxy Buds2 more over the past week not only to get a better sense of how they sound, but also to confirm an increasing number of reports around the web of skin irritation arising from these earbuds. Potential skin sensitivity issues make these a pass And of course, proper over-ear headphones will offer better noise cancelation than any earbuds. True, something like the Sony WF-1000XM4 earbuds have better sound and ANC performance, but they also cost more. They're comfortable, easy to pair, and the sound is excellent for the price.
The Galaxy Buds2 might not have the longevity of the Buds+ or the premium sound quality of the Buds Pro, but they offer a lot for the price. The Buds2 land in the middle, and they nail the basics. There are ultra-premium offerings like the Sony 1000X and budget buds at $100 or less that will get the job done. The true wireless earbud market is settling out in a predictable way. The Buds2 work as a Bluetooth device on iOS, of course, but there's no app support, so you can't change settings or adjust the EQ. You should not, however, buy the Buds2 if you have (or might purchase) an iPhone. If you don't have a Samsung phone, the Buds 2 will work like any other Bluetooth audio device, and they might still be worth buying. Increasingly, I feel like you should just get whichever earbuds your phone manufacturer makes, if that's possible. The tight integration with Samsung hardware is a real selling point.
